Choosing the Right Remote Software
Remote software, depending which you choose, relies mostly on your individual needs as different applications can provide remote capabilities in a variety of different ways.
Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop app can be used extensively on Windows domain networks. The Remote Desktop app is very useful for providing access to an internal business network. You can sit at home on a PC and connect to your applications, files and network resources as if you were sitting in front of your work PC. This can be useful, for example, if one of your employees needs to spend the day working from home to look after a dependant. However Remote Desktop app does require a server to be configured as a gateway device and it must be licensed.
Another type of remote software that you may find useful is TeamViewer. And like the Remote Desktop app it must be licensed for commercial use. If you aren’t a techie the good thing about TeamViewer is that it is very easy to use. A major advantage over Remote Desktop app is that TeamViewer offers the possibility to create your own TeamViewer account and register multiple computer’s or devices to it, so that you can access them from anywhere . In this way, you can connect to computers and devices that are within your local network or on the internet by simply logging into your account. It is also important to note TeamViewer is able to connect to Windows, Linux or Mac OS machines due to the dedicated TeamViewer clients for each platform. However a downside of TeamViewer is that it doesn’t allow you to choose what devices to share with the remote computer or device such as printers and speakers whereas Remote Desktop app does.
We believe both applications are beneficial and worth trying out!
