I’ve Passed my Driving Test!
Alex’s Story
Finally I can say I’m a fully qualified driver!
After traveling for a long two hours on the train I was able to spend time contemplating what was ahead and if I could do it! I was starting to think there would be no way in just under ten days I would be able to successfully pass my driving test with no previous training, but little did I know I was very wrong…
Once I had finally arrived in Blackpool I was kindly greeted by my driving instructor Chris. After I’d settled in Chris proceeded to take me out on what he called a taster session which involved me driving around a big Blackpool car park to get used to controlling the car. It was great to get started as soon as possible. Chris gave me lots of encouragement and confidence that I would successfully pass right from day one.
Chris from Greenlight Driving School could not have been a better teacher! He also provided me with accommodation at his guest house for the 10 days. The Walkden House is ran by Chris and his wife Julie. Chris and Julie where fabulous and treated me very well and constantly made sure I was comfortable and had no problems.
After my First five days the pressure started to kick in. However I was much more at ease with driving by now and I didn’t require much more than directions from Chris. On day six Chris began to teach me more advanced manoeuvres including emergency breaking, parallel parking, bay parking, reversing around a corner and the three point turn. All of them seemed difficult at first but the more I practiced the better I got. The thing that I found particularly tricky was hill starting. By now I was starting to receive lots of good luck calls and texts as it was coming up to test day.
The nerves kicked in as the day had arrived. I honestly don’t think I have ever been as nervous. I knew I could drive it was just the pressure of not making a mistake. Luckily everything seemed to be going great throughout the test even though I stalled the car during the dreaded hill start! However, I managed to recover well and I passed the test successfully with only three minor mistakes. What a relief!
