Computers and similar devices are constantly being made smaller and smaller. Without password protection nothing is safe! Therefore we have provided some quick and easy tips you can use to make sure your data is always protected whether that’s for business or personal use.
Keeping your passwords safe:
- Avoid passwords that are easy to guess such as a date of birth or school you attended.
- Never give out a password for an account that should only be accessed by you.
- Use different passwords for different services.
- Manage different passwords by using a password manager such as password safe.
- Make passwords at least 8 characters long or more. This is, perhaps, the most important note when creating a strong password.
- Include numbers, capital letters and symbols in your passwords.
- Don’t use dictionary words.
- Be careful who is around when you enter your password.
- Consider using multi factor authentication this normally equates to something that you own and something you know. For instance your password is something you know and the numbers on the signature verification strip on a credit card is something you own.
- Confirm that the place you are entering the password is legitimate and not a phishing attack.
- Is your device secure? Could it have malware attempting to steal your password?
- Is the network that you are connected to secure?
- Avoid having hand written copies of passwords in a draw or stuck to your monitor!
