As of the last few weeks I have been the new IT apprentice at Smarter Technologies. Starting off as a first year IT apprentice I had no idea what to expect on my first day at college. It had been years since I was in a classroom setting, I had already done three weeks in to my on the job training at Smarter Technologies and I was really enjoying the practical side to IT support. So when my apprentice assessor Stephen explained I would be starting my college course straight away I was looking forward to learning more about IT but also quite nervous about what was ahead.
The day came my first day at college was about to begin. I got up early had a shower and got ready obviously wanting to look my best for my first day as I imagine everyone else did. I arrived at Bury College ten minutes before the class was about to start. As more and more students began to arrive I realised it was quite a few people’s first day which put me at ease. When we entered the class we had a talk about the college, where to go if we needed help, what was expected of us. The teacher went through all the modules we would be doing which all sounded really useful and interesting to run along side my practical training.
I attend college once a week and I feel its great way to talk to other students in the same position and discuss any problems or concerns and also its great to give each other tips from our practical training that we can take back to our workplaces.
