60% of businesses in the UK are affected by crime each year and this costs a staggering £5bn, with a staggering 10% of business lost as a consequence of crime.
At Smarter Technologies we have been carrying out CCTV Installation for a number of organisations in the fight against crime. During my apprenticeship I was taught how to install CCTV systems and the health and safety procedures involved with CCTV.
One of our clients Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme (BYPHS) asked if we would be able to install 10 cameras altogether covering 3 communal areas which would be shared by all the residents this included a kitchen/dining area, sitting room and an entertainment room and seven residential areas. Because the building was a residential property we needed to make sure that the cameras were able to “see in the dark” so we therefore used infrared. We also needed to make sure the cameras were connected back to the staff office digital video recorder (DVR) where a monitor was set up for the ease of viewing for the staff at BYPHS. The CCTV cameras are required to keep a close eye on some of the vulnerable residents and to help prevent crime as on several occasions many of the residential rooms have been vandalised.
